Two media articles were published in The Daily Telegraph on the 22.12.10 reporting the liberals will set up a licensing authority when elected in the NSW State Election of 2011. We have put links to the articles below:
Scarlet Alliance put out a media release about this issue and NAUWU in partnership with Scarlet Alliance publicly released the submission below. Open Letter to NSW Liberal Party re: Regulatory Matters after 2011 State Election
The NSW Liberal Party has indicated in the lead up to the NSW State election 2011, that they will be looking at the issue of regulatory matters including imposing a licensing system on the NSW sex industry such as the ones that exist in Victoria and Queensland. Members of NAUWU worked together to write an open letter to the NSW Liberal Party in an effort to lobby and educate them on the experience of regulation in other States and how NSW has been more than successful at operating without a regulatory system in place. Please see our members open letter to the NSW Liberal Party at the link below:

Open Letter to NSW parliamentarians sent in the lead up to World AIDS Day 2011
As a further incentive to remind people of the pioneering work of Australian sex workers in the fight against AIDS. We are still advocating for sensible legislative responses to the sex industry. As our world renown best practice approach comes under increasing threat, we need to put increased pressure on the Government and all parliamentarians. We need them to respect the bi-partisan approach that led to the decriminalisation of the NSW sex industry in 1995.

Letter to Premier of New South Wales, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Attorney General and Minister for Justice re: demanding a seat at the table for any NSW working party brothel licensing authority_ 2011
This letter was sent in response to an article written by Chris Seage in Crikey alledging there is a working party meeting that sex workers have not been invited to and therefore do not have a voice on. The working party was alledgly set up to establish a Brothel Licensing Authority (BLA) and to hand over the regulation of the NSW sex industry to the NSW Police. For the letter and further information on the article NAUWU are responding to, please see the page below:

Be Wise, Decriminalise: Letter writing campaign
The NSW sex industry is currently campaigning against proposed law reform to introduce regulation to the NSW sex industry. In NSW we currently operate in a decriminalised industry meaning we are treated the same way as any other industry or business. We are campaigning for the right for NSW sex workers to continue to operate in a decriminalised industry.

Council
North Sydney Council
NAUWU is lobbying North Sydney Council because it now prohibits home occupation sex services in all zones under their new draft Local Environmental Plan. This means in North Sydney home occupation sex services (private workers who work from home) are PROHIBITED in all ZONES. Unlike Marrickville Council who have actually listed them as prohibited, North Sydney Council has effectively prohibited them by making no provision to allow them anywhere. They simply don’t exist beyond a definition. For more information including what NAUWU is doing and what you can do, please see page below:
City of Sydney Council
The City of Sydney Council have put forward their draft Sydney Local Environmental Plan (SLEP) 2011 for public exhibition and public comment. The link below is the submission response put forward by Touching Base and Urban Realists.

NSW Organisations
ACON/SWOP
NAUWU calls for SWOP to ‘devolve’ from ACON as soon as possible so sex workers can run the organisation NSW Health funds for sex workers in NSW. The support of self-determination for sex workers is considered the best practice in Public Health Promotion by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations (UNAIDS), but the Board of ACON currently refuses to support it.

Criminalisation and licensing is wrong, don’t support Porter’s Bill_Letter writing campaign
Porter’s Bill has progressed through the WA Parliament and now there is new urgency for action to be taken. NAUWU has begun another letter writing campaign to address this Bill lobbying all WA MP’s to research and think about the issues sex workers will face if they vote for Porter’s Bill. You will find NAUWU’s letter, list of MP’s and their contact details for lobbying, response from a MP and info on why the Swedish Model WILL NOT DO!

Open letter to the Australian Federal Police (AFP)_October 26th 2011
In response to the program “Sex Slavery” by Four Corners and all other associated media coverage, NAUWU sent an open letter to the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The Four Corners program sensationalised the issue of trafficking in the sex industry and the AFP plays a major role in regulating this aspect of the sex industry. The Four Corners program has been the catalyst in a wave of raids by AFP and other regulatory bodies across NSW and VIC. These raids have targetted migrant sex workers.
